Elizabeth Greaf enjoys teaching people at all levels
but focuses on work with
adults and serious teens. Please don't tell her that you have no ability
in art. Her definition of "talent" is "being willing to start at the
beginning and then work to develop skill and artistic insight". The child who is labeled
"talented" is also the one you see constantly drawing and who is willing to see
both his or her successes and the areas they need to improve. This exploration
and work develops into artistic skill. That, alongside of accepting the freedom to
experiment with new techniques, styles, and images grows into the ability to create
beautiful and improving works of art.
wing, they work at developing the skill just as people in any
other profession work and study to develop their skills. The student who has difficulty is usually the student who thinks that he or she should start out with artwork at the level they've enjoyed in great museums. Let yourself be a beginner, listen to and explore the concepts of both seeing like an artist and drawing, then you can learn to draw. I emphasize drawing because it is the first step to painting and many other forms of visual art.
Whether teaching fundamentals to people new to the art medium or providing continuing classes for the more advanced student, her classes always go beyond and include discussion of many aspects of composition, drawing, art history, etc.
